Already on the larger side of true off road teardrops, a 5’x10’ sized trailer would be considered quite roomy on the trail. But, thanks to some next level design and fabrication, Overkill Campers has lived up to its name by building in a fully mechanical side slide-out that almost doubles the interior size, all with the ease of opening and closing a large bearing slide-out drawer.
And what an interior! I was very impressed with the quality of craftsmanship on Overkill Camper’s TK47 squaredrop we also reviewed, but with the slide out it’s a whole other level. For starters, what slides out is a full size bed that’s 6’6” long and 4’3” wide. The edge of the bed acts as a bench for 2 to sit comfortably at a large Lagun table. There’s a nice bench on the other side for 2 others to sit cozy as well. This creates an interior environment that’s fully suitable and comfortable for 4 adults.
While the full size bed accommodates 2 adults, there‘s an option to add the 80/20 slim rack system on the roof, and the 5×10 Overkill camper on display had an Alu-Cab roof top tent mounted, so this could comfortably accommodate sleeping 2 additional adults.
There’s multiple Arctic Tern windows for various ventilation options, and a really nice open pass-through with a counter to the rear hatch access. There’s some nice drawers and cabinets…you can really see the quality of craftsmanship here with all the soft aluminum finish trim.
Ample interior recessed LED lighting is dimmable and has a remote control. There’s multiple USB ports and an optional Propex propane cabin heater with a digital thermostat.
The main storage capacity of Overkill Camper’s 5×10 is within a cool slide-out Zarges storage case system accessible via the rear hatch. 2 large storage lockers sit in the front near the trailer tongue. The lower compartment houses a large, slide-out Dometic fridge/freezer.
On the entrance door side of the trailer, in the rear is a slide-out kitchen that houses a sink and Cook Partner stove. This kitchen tucks away nicely when closed with a flush-mount drawer.
Off-Road Capable
This is the biggest trailer I’ve seen in-person that utilizes Timbren’s 3500 HD axle-less suspension which you see on many of the most serious off road trailers. And this is all mounted to a stout 2”x3”x.120” box frame. It has a nice departure angle in the rear, and the camper has trail armor.
The fenders are constructed with the same bar work as its rock sliders. In fact, the fenders are so beefy that they have Hi-Lift Jack points integrated. And, the fenders are completely modular so if you happen to damage something parts can be changed out.
To avoid smacking many rocks, the undercarriage clearance of the trailer sits at 20 inches. The camper has a Lock-N-Roll articulating hitch and electric brakes standard as well.
A few additional specs for the camper include:
- 2,600 lb dry weight
- 240 lb tongue weight
- Water capacity: 35 gallons
Off Grid Power
A simple power station is located on the driver side rear with via a flush-mount, sealed door. Within exists an easy to read fuse panel, a master switch and 2, 6V T105 Trojan Batteries for ample power storage. Overkill Campers offers multiple solar panel setups, ranging from 120W – 200W.
Final Thoughts
Apart from the top-notch design and craftsmanship Overkill Campers displays in their builds, the standard features baked in are very well thought out, and probably more than you’d see in the standard features for other comparable trailers. For example their signature Overkill Orange bedding, pillows and pint glasses, cool LED lighting all over the place, rear backup camera and all sorts of other goodies.
I was so impressed with these trailers, I’m hoping to get a chance at some point to try out one of Overkill Camper’s 5×10 models in the future.
